Ryan Gowty Memorial Trophy History

Ryan Gowty has a long history with the Nagambie On Water open water swim. In 2009, as a junior, he not only won the junior category but placed third fastest overall for the males. As a senior he was on the podium numerous times, narrowly missing the fastest overall swimmer in 2015, by just seconds.

At just 20 years of age Ryan was tragically killed in a camping accident on the Murray River over the 2018 Christmas break. The NOW Festival have two memorial awards in memory of Ryan.  Fastest Male and Fastest Female Swimmers in the 1.1km event.

COVID-19 Event Management Plan:

This event will be conducted using and following the guidelines of TIER 2 event procedures. Wave starts of appropriate size for each event to ensure social distancing , QR code check in for everyone who attends including participants, supporters, workers and volunteers. Upon finishing the event participants shall not gather, with presentations limited to be advised as the event approaches.

Participant agrees to complete symptom self assessment prior to leaving home and not attend if they are unwell or have been instructed to isolate or quarantine.

All participants must carry a fitter face covering.  Face coverings must be worn when registering,  and when unable to maintain 1.5m physical distance from others.  Face masks will obviously be not required to swim!

With restrictions easing and immediate outlook looking optimistic, it is expected that this event will allow a fantastic experience similar to the event in past years.  However, the COVID-19 landscape can change quickly.  If the event is deemed not safe to hold per government directions, the event will be cancelled and a full refund less processing fees will be available.

Electronic timing for the open water swim is performed by Fast Finish Event Timing, an event timing business servicing Victoria and southern New South Wales.  Facebook @fastfinish1 or head to their website for timing services information and results of prior years www.fastfinish.com.au
