Wine, dine and trace the heritage behind Black Caviar in Victoria’s premier thoroughbred breeding district with the Black Caviar Trail.

The Black Caviar Trail is a tour of Victoria’s prime thoroughbred breeding region, celebrating the enormous success of the champion racehorse Black Caviar and highlighting the credentials and history of the regional thoroughbred breeding and racing industry.

The trail takes in 25 designated sites of significance, connecting the city to the central corridor of Victoria. You can explore for yourself by customising your drive, picking and choosing which of the sites you wish to explore, and which ones you may leave out for another day.

Be captivated by the picturesque countryside, passing by thoroughbred establishments of note, visit wineries, cafes, restaurants, enjoy a river cruise and, take a moment to reflect on the success of the champion Black Caviar, grabbing the perfect photo opportunity standing beside her statue,  situated on the foreshore of Lake Nagambie.

Black Caviar was born on 18 August 2006 at 5.20 am at Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Victoria. She grew up on the Goulburn River property and then went to Swettenham Stud in December 2007 for a 10-week yearling preparation where she was then sold for $210,000 at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
